PocketDial has been helping UK residents call abroad cheaply since 2003. We started out selling dial-around access numbers — but that technology is being phased out ahead of the UK’s copper-to-digital landline switch-off, so we retired our own access number service and rebuilt the site around something more useful: an honest, no-nonsense comparison of every real way to call and stay connected abroad today.

That means WhatsApp where it’s free, Rebtel where it isn’t, and travel eSIMs (Airalo, Holafly) if you’re the one going abroad. We compare options by country rather than pushing one product, because the right answer genuinely depends on who you’re calling, what device they have, and whether you’re calling from a landline, a mobile, or travelling yourself.
