Do I need to take my phone to a shop to get an eSIM for Europe?

No. An eSIM is installed digitally by scanning a QR code or tapping a link — there's no physical SIM card and no shop visit. Most plans activate within minutes, even after you've already landed.

Will my UK phone number still work in Europe if I use an eSIM?

Yes. Your eSIM handles data, while your normal UK SIM stays active for calls and texts (most phones from the last few years support two SIM profiles at once — known as Dual SIM or DSDS). You can still receive UK calls and use WhatsApp as normal.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most phones from 2019 onwards do — including iPhone XS and later, and most Android flagships from Samsung, Google and others. Check your phone's settings under Mobile/Cellular Data for an 'Add eSIM' option, or check the eSIM provider's compatibility list before buying.

Is an eSIM cheaper than my network's roaming charges?
